
Margaret Bundy Scott Professor of Literature Katherine H. Terrell gave an invited lecture at the University of Nottingham titled “Gender Fluidity in the 13th c. Roman de Silence” on June 12.
The University of Nottingham’s Wollaton Library Collection holds the only manuscript copy of this long narrative poem, whose central character is born female, raised as a boy, and becomes a preeminent knight. The manuscript was on view at the lecture.
