Patrick D. Reynolds, professor of biology at Hamilton, has been appointed dean of faculty at the college, effective July 1, 2011. He is currently serving in that capacity on an interim basis.

President Joan Hinde Stewart announced the passing of Professor of English Emeritus George Bahlke in an e-mail to the campus community on Feb. 1: Professor of English Emeritus George Bahlke died on Feb. 1 of complications from pneumonia. He was 76 and, although retired, was a frequent presence on campus.

½¿É«µ¼º½ has opened a new center to support its increasingly diverse student population and named it for trustees Drew S. Days III and Arthur J. Massolo.

The ½¿É«µ¼º½ Town-Gown Fund celebrated its 10th anniversary by distributing a record $52,020 to eight local organizations.

Less than a year after becoming need-blind in admission, ½¿É«µ¼º½ has announced “Bicentennial Initiatives,” a $117 million capital campaign whose primary objective is funding the new policy.

A new work by ½¿É«µ¼º½ President Joan Hinde Stewart – The Enlightenment of age: Women, letters and growing old in eighteenth-century France – has been published by the Voltaire Foundation of the University of Oxford.

Why change an important program that already enjoys high rates of usage and gets high marks from students?

It has taken 17 years, but the president and Congress have finally accomplished what eight ½¿É«µ¼º½students achieved as part of a public policy class: overhaul the health care system.

½¿É«µ¼º½ has adopted a new strategic plan that is consistent with its identity, mission and purpose, and attentive to changing demographics and recent economic turmoil. The plan, titled "Foundations for Hamilton's Next 200 Years," identifies four defining values to direct future decision-making.

President Joan Hinde Stewart has begun a semester-long sabbatical to pursue scholarly work. Dean of Faculty Joe Urgo is serving as acting president until President Stewart  resumes her duties this summer.
